  • Pet of the Week - Dakota

    Posted by · September 05, 2023 2:44 PM · 1 reaction

Meet Dakota, a 25-year-old Quarterhorse looking for his forever home! Dakota was originally brought to the HSVC as part of a humane investigation in late 2018. He was adopted and returned to the shelter in late 2022 after his adoptive family fell on hard times financially.

Staff have gotten to know Dakota for his sweet, friendly personality and his affinity for anyone who will give him attention. He's easy to handle and loads into a trailer with ease. Though he cannot be ridden, Dakota would make the perfect pasture mate and big brother to a younger horse. We also think he would make a great therapy horse!

Dakota can be a picky eater at times, but that's only because he has refined his palate over the years. He loves to eat his special senior food and will even eat treats out of your hand if you're lucky!

If you are interested in making Dakota a part of your equine family, please call the shelter at 805-646-6505 for more information.

    Posted by · July 26, 2023 4:27 PM · 1 reaction

Tinsel is a gorgeous and quirky 7-year-old dilute Calico cat who was brought to the HSVC in November by our Humane Officers. Our gorgeous green-eyed Tinsel is deeply shy and skittish around strangers until they earn her trust. However, once she trusts you, Tinsel follows her humans around meowing for treats, attention, and for her litter box to be cleaned. When she feels safe and comfortable, she will affectionately seek belly rubs and take long catnaps sandwiched between her humans. Pretty girl Tinsel also enjoys scratching on cat trees and morphing into a gigantic playful kitten while chasing her favorite flower toy. Tinsel needs patient humans who will understand her difficult history, respect her boundaries, provide her with comfort, and allow her the space to share what a majestic and hilarious treasure she is.
