  • Pet of the Week - Mr. P

    Posted by · August 05, 2024 2:03 PM · 1 reaction

Meet Prieto, famously known as Mr. P by the HSVC team. This 28-year-old Quarterhorse came to the HSVC as part of a humane investigation in September 2023. His previous owner decided it was in Prieto's best interest to be surrendered to the shelter. He was severely emaciated, weighing only 776 lbs! He has come a long way in a short amount of time and is looking for his forever home.

Prieto is broke to ride and has been ridden, though he will need a refresher as it has been a while since he has been ridden. He's friendly overall but has a very strong personality. Though he is now gelded, Prieto spent most of his life as a stallion and will need an experienced owner who has the facilities and knowledge of a horse with his habits.

  • Pet of the Week - Nebula

    Posted by · July 29, 2024 12:00 PM

Meet Nebula, a sweet and friendly canine who has been searching for her forever home for over 400 days. She was impounded in the field by our Humane Officers in early June 2023 and came to HSVC for a fresh start. This 5-year-old Siberian Husky is a very playful girl with a lot of spunk. Nebula can be selective with dog friends but would do best with a male dog that will let her be the boss. She also wouldn't mind being the center of attention as the only pet in the household. Our fun-loving gal is always up for an adventure, but she also wouldn't mind lounging around relaxing at home. As an energetic and playful girl, tough toys are better for her as plushie toys are too easy for her.

She is a favorite among the volunteers. One of our volunteers, Julie, said, "I was volunteering during Camp to help with the dogs. I happened to be in the kennel with Nebula at the time.
A camper came by and admired how pretty Nebula was.  She asked me if she could read a book to Nebula and I told her of course.  The camper sat down close to the kennel gate and began reading to Nebula. Nebula stood there and watched the little girl, just staring at her. A few minutes later, to my surprise, Nebula climbed over my legs and laid down right in front of the girl and Nebula stayed there the whole time and watched and listened until the little girl finished the whole book.  I almost teared up even though I know what a special dog she is. It was clear she likes kids. I hope she finds a good home soon,  although I will miss her."
