Thank you, Madison!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

HSVC would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Madison Kim for her generous donation to benefit animals in need! Madison, a 7th grader from Viewpoint School in Calabasas, started her own homemade pet treat line and donated all the proceeds to our shelter. She was able to raise $500, and her parents matched her sales with an additional $500 donation to HSVC.  Twelve-year-old Madison was first introduced to HSVC after she visited the shelter during a field trip with her elementary school in 2019. The experience left such a positive impact on the animal-loving student that she asked for donations to the shelter instead of gifts for her 8th birthday. Madison wanted to make a bigger impact and began brainstorming ways she could help make a difference. According to Madison's mom, Sohyung, Madison's love for animals drove her to start her business by researching recipes, mixing and baking the treats, designing her logo, and packaging the treats all on her own. Her small business, Madison's Treats, was born and became an instant success! Madison spent the summer manning a stand in her neighborhood to sell her baked dog treats. She gave her first round of donations to the shelter at the end of the summer of 2021 and has continued to fundraise for HSVC each summer since. We are so impressed with her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit and greatly appreciate her support of our mission! Don't miss out on the Humane Society of Ventura County's first-ever Clear the Shelters fee-waived adoption event! Join us at the shelter, located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai, on Friday, August 18th, from 10 am - 4 pm for FREE adoptions! That's right, you could take home a furry family member for FREE! Clear The Shelters 2023 is a nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign that helps find loving homes for animals in need. More than 860,000 pets have found their forever homes since the campaign's launch in 2015. We could not be more excited to participate! Please visit our Adopt page to review HSVC's adoption requirements prior to arriving at the shelter this Friday. All potential adopters must participate in the full adoption process to ensure each pet finds the best-suited home. This promotion does not guarantee the adoption of an HSVC shelter animal.  Note that for all same-day dog adoptions, potential adopters MUST show proof of home ownership or a rental agreement stating they are allowed to have a dog in their home. Potential adopters must also bring photos/videos of their yard to show proof that it is secure enough for their desired pet. All dogs requiring additional meet and greets will be scheduled for a later date with the fee-waived price honored. Thank you!
