Our Woofs, Hooves, and Whiskers Calendar Contest is in full swing! We've received so many pawesome entries, it's still anybody's guess who our grand prize winner might be! Enter your purrfect pet's photo for a chance to win. Don't forget to get your friends and family to vote to help lead them to victory! Voting concludes September 8th, 2023 at 5 pm PST.
In addition to those with the most votes, we will also have several winners chosen by our esteemed panel of judges. See below to learn more about them!
Val began her journey with the HSVC in the Summer of 2022 as a general Volunteer. She has a special place in her heart for our more rambunctious pups and enjoys giving them 1-on-1 attention to help them learn their manners. Val is also the proud owner of a doggie boutique in Ventura called Dogtown VTA. Her store sells everything a pup would need, and she often donates to benefit animals in need at the HSVC.
Like many volunteers, Val fell in love with a pup she met at the shelter. She made HSVC alum Mia (formerly Sia) a permanent member of her family in December of 2022, and they have been living the good life with fur sibling Matt ever since. From managing her own store to organizing events to benefit local shelters, Val has become an active member of the animal welfare community and we are so grateful to have her judging our contest!
If you've ever visited the shelter or been to an HSVC community event, you've probably seen our next judge! Greg began volunteering in December of 2019 just before the pandemic hit. He quickly became one of our most dedicated volunteers once the shelter reopened and earned the title of Animal Ambassador in 2022. He spends countless hours at the shelter and even more helping with offsite community events to promote the HSVC.
Greg most enjoys working with our canine friends, but you can also find him mucking stalls in the horse barn, assisting with maintenance around the shelter, and more. He truly is a jack of all trades and we're so thankful for everything he does for the shelter! Greg is also the proud dad to two HSVC alums, petite Chihuahua Jet and playful girl Paloma.
Kelsey Seymour was born and raised in the Ojai Valley. She has long-standing ties to the animal welfare community after growing up in her parents' feed store, Ventura Hay. Kelsey has been managing Pets and More, located in the Von's shopping center in Ojai, for seven years. Pets and More is a large supporter of the HSVC and often donates gift baskets, pet food, and more to our shelter all thanks to Kelsey! She and her fiancé are the proud parents to a 5-year-old French Bulldog named Oakley. We're excited to have her aboard as a judge for our contest!
Rounding off our panel of judges is HSVC's Media & Marketing Manager, Amy King. Amy joined our shelter squad in January 2020 and has been steadily growing our online presence ever since. She manages HSVC's Instagram, Facebook, and Tiktok accounts and produces unique content daily to promote our animals, programs, and services. Amy specializes in promoting the "cuteness factor", making her an ideal judge for our calendar contest!
