HSVC Aids Tulare County Animal Services in Fire Evacuations

On September 9th, 2021, the Sequoia National Forest erupted in flames in a fire now known as the Windy Fire. Less than a day later, another fire popped up soon to be dubbed the KNP Complex Fire. Both fires are located within Tulare County. As of September 27th, the Windy Fire had burned over 85,000 acres with only 2% containment and the KNP Complex Fire had burned approximately 47,000 acres with 8% containment. Multiple evacuation orders have been issued since the fires started, with thousands of people and pets displaced.

Jojo's Transformation

Eight-year-old Jojo came to the HSVC in early September after she was rescued in the field by our Humane Officers. She was extremely matted when she first arrived; so much so that her ears were immobile and stuck to her head. Despite her unkempt appearance, Jojo seemed to be in good spirits and appeared relieved to be in our care.

Pantry 4 Paws Provides 761 Pounds of Pet Food in One Month!

The HSVC is proud to share last month our Pantry 4 Paws program provided a whopping 761 pounds to pet owners in need! That's a 300% increase from the last four months! Through this program, pet owners can receive free dog and cat food via one of our many remote pet food banks throughout Ventura County.

Kyra's Journey to Happily Ever After

Nine-month-old Kyra first came to the HSVC as an owner surrender after her previous owner could no longer care for her. She was very shy when she first arrived at the Shelter and was only comfortable being handled by a select few of our Kennel Staff. However, over time Kyra slowly opened up and became a happy, sweet pup. Despite her young age, the gorgeous Tibetan Mastiff was already over 75 pounds and growing fast. We knew she would need a very special home with owners who had experience with her specific breed.

Mona's Happily Ever After

Looks like someone is enjoying getting the royal treatment! Mona, an 8-month-old Belgian Malinois, was recently surrendered to the HSVC after her previous owner could no longer care for her. Given her young age, breed, and smart personality, our staff quickly realized she had the potential to be a part of a rescue organization rather than a home.
