Jojo's Transformation

Eight-year-old Jojo came to the HSVC in early September after she was rescued in the field by our Humane Officers. She was extremely matted when she first arrived; so much so that her ears were immobile and stuck to her head. Despite her unkempt appearance, Jojo seemed to be in good spirits and appeared relieved to be in our care.

Upon arrival at the Shelter, the miniature poodle mix was immediately taken to our groom room for a much-needed makeover. After hours of diligent grooming, our staff had shaved nearly five pounds of matted fur off of the sweet pup. Jojo was then given a bath and finally a blowout to fluff her new do. Jojo was also examined by our Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Sisk, to further evaluate her health. The senior pup was later spayed and received extensive dental work, including multiple teeth extractions.

Officer Utter stopped by to check on Jojo after her makeover was complete. “She looked so different, I couldn’t believe it was the same dog! Our staff did an amazing job,” said Officer Utter. Jojo then showered Officer Utter with puppy kisses as if to say, “Thank you for rescuing me.”

Jojo’s transformation story is just one of many made possible by our HSVC staff. As the only agency in Ventura County to employ Humane Officers, we are extremely lucky to have such dedicated individuals advocating for the safety and protection on animals in need. Our Shelter is also grateful to our kennel and clinic staff. Without them, the animals at the HSVC would not receive the care they need.

As a private nonprofit, we do not receive any funding from the government or other national animal welfare organizations. Our Shelter relies entirely on the generosity of our community to help us continue providing life-saving services. With this in mind, we ask you to consider making a donation to the HSVC. Your donation will allow us to continue providing protection, compassionate care, and more for animals like Jojo. Please visit our website to make a donation and help animals in need.
