Juliet’s Puppy Shower was a huge success! Thank you to all the animal lovers who donated toys, treats, and more to help us welcome Juliet and her extra large litter of fur babies to the HSVC! The puppies are now 3-weeks-old, and though they are still far too young to be adopted, each pup is slowly beginning to open its eyes and ears. Many are even discovering how to scoot around the nursery. Mama Juliet definitely has her paws full!
Puppies have taken over the Humane Society of Ventura County! We are very excited to officially introduce Juliet and her brood of adorable fur babies! Three-year-old Juliet was transferred to the HSVC through our rescue partners at Kern County Animal Services in mid-March. Very sweet but very pregnant, the German Shepherd mama-to-be was placed into foster care to ensure she had a quiet and comfortable space to have her puppies.
Many cats, including stray and feral cats, go into heat and give birth during the warmer months. Known as Kitten Season, shelters like the HSVC are flooded with litters of young kittens during this time of year. Kittens are often found unattended in streets, yards, or neighborhood areas. While it may seem like these fur babies have been orphaned, most kittens have not actually been abandoned by their mothers. It is more likely that their mother is out getting food or even hiding close by.
Kayla recently reached out to the HSVC in need of financial assistance for her dog, Panda, who was in need of emergency medical care. We were able to provide her with an Angel Fund voucher, which helps pet owners with serious financial needs get their animals emergency medical treatment. We are happy to report Panda has since made a full recovery!
Are you interested in caring for sweet, adorable kittens? Apply to become a foster parent with the HSVC! With kitten season right around the corner, we are looking for experienced fosters to help us house, feed, and care for the many rescued and abandoned neonatal kittens that come through our shelter this time of year.
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! Though volunteer opportunities are currently on hold due to COVID-19, we can still acknowledge the amazing contributions our volunteers have made over the years.
