After over a year, we are excited to announce the Humane Society of Ventura County was finally able to work with our rescue partners once again this week, thanks to our friends at Kern County Animal Services!
It's almost that time of year again, Oliver Bird is turning 34! Help us celebrate our favorite bird's birthday with a virtual celebration on Thursday, March 25th, at 3 pm! Hosted by Humane Educator Angie Sagliani, this 30-minute Zoom class will showcase Oliver, his tricks, and his outgoing personality. Virtual partygoers will get to play Oliver Bingo and even learn some awesome fun facts about Umbrella Cockatoos! Animal lovers of all ages are welcome!
Break out the shamrocks, it’s St. Patrick’s Day! Every year, partygoers celebrate this century-old holiday with festive gatherings, alcohol, and of course, lots of the color green! While St. Patty’s Day may look a little different this year, it is still important to review these tips from the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) to ensure your four-legged friends stay safe this March 17th!
HSVC shelter dogs Nova and Max were treated to an off-site playdate this past Saturday with Kennel Attendant/Vet Assistant Natalie and Media & Marketing Coordinator Amy. The pair of pups spent the day hiking the hills of downtown Ojai, and boy did they have fun!
Several cats at the HSVC recently took a field trip to Ventura College East Campus to assist the students of the Ventura College (VC) Veterinary Technician program. Five of our felines participated in a class in which students learned how to properly handle animals, observe behaviors, and more!
Senior Humane Officer Tracy Vail has decided to leave the Humane Society of Ventura County to focus on her dog training business, The Canine Messenger. Tracy, who was hired by the HSVC as a Humane Officer in 2005, performed investigations of animal abuse and neglect, collected evidence and testified in extreme cases where prosecution was warranted. She also assisted in evacuations during fires and other emergencies and educated the public about the compassionate care of animals.
Our Spring board meeting is CANCELED until further notice due to COVID-19. The Humane Society of Ventura County is still closed to the public, including public walkthroughs to visit the animals and access to all buildings.
The Humane Society of Ventura County would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to Dr. Marta Granstedt for her 35+ years of service as a Veterinarian. Throughout her career, Dr. Granstedt has been an invaluable asset to animal rescue operations in Ventura County and beyond. We cannot express enough appreciation for the wisdom, care, and hard work she lent to any case she was involved in.
