Maui Finds His Forever Home!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

We are thrilled to share that after 85 days at the shelter, Maui has found his forever home! He was adopted earlier this month by Scott and has been thriving ever since! Three-year-old Maui was adopted from the HSVC as a kitten in 2020. He returned to us in mid-July of 2023 after his previous owner relocated to a home that was not pet-friendly. After returning to the shelter, it was discovered that Maui had a history of Cystitis, a condition that causes inflammation in the urinary bladder that flares up with stress. He had to be on a special diet due to his condition and resided in our outdoor catio area to keep him from snacking on food that could upset his tummy. While staff and volunteers frequently visited Maui in his outdoor bachelor pad, what he really needed was to find a home of his own. Scott visited the shelter earlier this month in search of a friendly companion cat. He spent time with our boy Maui and instantly fell in love. The rest is history! Thank you, Scott, for taking a chance on Maui, and thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped this special guy find his happily ever after!

Jack Crosses the Rainbow Bridge

By Humane Society of Ventura County

We are deeply saddened to share that HSVC shelter horse Jack has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He was loved by so many at the shelter and will be greatly missed.Nineteen-year-old Jack was surrendered in the field to our Humane Officers in early August of 2023. He was given an intake exam upon arriving at the shelter where it was discovered he was struggling with laminitis. Jack was taken to Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates Equine Hospital to receive treatment for his condition and began showing signs of improvement. However, on Friday, October 6th, Jack's coffin bone rotated even more to the point where he was unable to put weight on his leg. He was transported back to the Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates for further examination. Under the expert advisement of hospital staff, we made the incredibly difficult decision to humanely end Jack's suffering. We appreciate your support and understanding as our shelter staff grieve during this difficult time.

HSVC Friends- Girl Scout Troop 61690 Bronze Award Project

By Angie Sagliani

Kitten season happens each year in the months of May through October, but it can sometimes last year-round. This year HSVC has had many kittens arrive at the shelter in need of care. The shelter’s Foster Coordinator, Cheney, juggles our community’s kitten care while also gathering the supplies needed for young fur babies. HSVC is very grateful to Girl Scout Troop #61690 for seeing the need for supplies for our kitten foster program! These supplies are a crucial part of the foster care program to ensure our foster parents have the tools needed to care for orphaned litters. Our beloved foster families help the kittens thrive and eventually return to the shelter to find their new forever homes. Supplies can be donated to the shelter and will help keep down the financial cost of caring for our community’s animals. Visit our Foster Kitten Amazon Wishlist if you would like to support our efforts!
