Double Take is Now Available for Adoption!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

We are excited to share that 25-year-old Double Take is now available for adoption! The handsome Standardbred was surrendered in the field to our Humane Officers in early August 2023. A spirited boy, Double Take was gifted his name due to the unique markings on his face. He is broke, and his previous owner even shared that you are able to trim trees while sitting on him. That seems like the perfect job for a horse coming in at 16 hands tall! Our Equine Manager, Christina, has gotten to work with Double Take and feels he would be a great ride with a little tune-up. However, his large size and even larger personality will require a confident and experienced owner who can handle his stubborn nature. Double Take is not on a special diet, but he does have a big appetite and needs a large amount of food to keep him happy and healthy.  If you think Double Take could be your boy, please reach out to the shelter at 805-646-6505 for more information or to schedule a meet and greet with him.

Thank You Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates Equine Hospital!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

The Humane Society of Ventura County would like to shine a spotlight of gratitude on our friends at Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates Equine Hospital. As long term supporters of the HSVC, their staff always go above and beyond to ensure our shelter horses receive the medical care they need. We appreciate their collaboration and passion for equine welfare so much! Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates treats an average of 3-5 HSVC shelter horses each year, many of which are part of active humane investigation cases. This month alone they saw and treated four of our horses.  "Dr. Fallon Haig and Dr. Erin Elder have been absolutely wonderful during our most recent visits. They approach some of our tough and odd situations with professionalism and expertise. The office staff are amazing and always greet us warmly. An all-around wonderful facility!" said Humane Investigations Director, Kendra King.  Thank you, Humphrey Giacopuzzi & Associates, for everything you do for equines in need!

HSVC Officially Welcomes Officer Gonzalez to the Team!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

The Humane Society of Ventura County is thrilled to officially welcome Officer. R. Gonzalez to the Humane Investigations team! He was sworn in on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Ventura County Hall of Justice and badged at the shelter in the presence of friends and family. With the addition of Officer R. Gonzalez, HSVC will now have three full-time Humane Officers. This year the Humane Officers will have had approximately 520+ cases across Ventura County. Increasing the number of Humane Officers will directly impact HSVC’s ability to respond to animal cruelty and neglect complaints. We could not think of a better candidate to join this incredible team! Officer R. Gonzalez graduated from Ventura County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy in June 2012, where he received his Police Officer Standards and training certifications. As a Ventura County local, born and raised, he is an animal lover who has had numerous pets ranging from cats, dogs, hamsters, and even a snake. Having multiple pets throughout his life has instilled a passion for animal welfare in him. He then joined the HSVC team in December of 2022 as a Humane Officer Trainee and has completed the vigorous training this past year that is required to become a badged Humane Officer.

By Humane Society of Ventura County

The Humane Society of Ventura County is excited to offer its first-ever Spin the Wheel of Adoption Event! Now through October 31st, all adoption fees will be determined by our Wheel of Adoption. Our friends at Kirby Subaru and ASPCA are donating $100 per adoption to occur in the month of October, up to $3100! You can help us reach our goal by bringing home a shelter animal in need or helping us spread the word. We appreciate the support!
