The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
The HSVC had an eventful weekend participating in not one, but two events this past Saturday! Thank you to our friends at Boat Specialists for hosting us as part of their annual Boat Show and Tent Sale. Boat Specialists also had several of their vendors put out tip jars at their booths with all proceeds going to the shelter. We appreciate the support!
Our staff had so much fun hosting 60 second graders from Loma Vista Elementary School last week! The students spent a lovely day at the shelter learning how to properly care for their pets and about all the amazing resources the HSVC offers our community. Each group got a tour of the shelter led by a member of our staff and got the chance to interact with our shelter animals. What a fun way to spend a school day!
Tickets are now on sale for HSVC's biggest birthday bash celebration yet! This year's 91st birthday festivities include a 2-day celebration at the shelter featuring a ticketed fundraiser dinner on June 9th and a FREE community event on June 10th to benefit animals in need.
HSVC would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our friends at The Wharf in Ventura. The Wharf is not only a pet food supplier to the shelter but also generously donates surplus pet food for our Pet Pantry program. This surplus food gets distributed to other organizations and to the community through our Pet Pantry program serving all of Ventura County.
A big thank you goes out to Tracy Vail of The Canine Messenger for coming to the shelter and hosting a training for our volunteers! The volunteers learned a variety of skills during their 3-hour training including how to go on a pack walk, how to train a dog in the agility yard, and proper kennel conduct. This type of training is vital to helping our shelter pups learn their manners before finding their forever homes.
With Mother's Day just around the corner, we thought what better way to promote our adoptable mamas than to have a Mother's Day adoption special! Our three shelter moms, Lala, Ellie, Baby, and Maya are all available half-priced at just $60 all month long!
May is the ASPCA's second annual Adopt-A-Horse Month! This nationwide adoption event takes place each year to help loving equines find their forever homes. The HSVC is proud to announce the promotion of Humane Officer J. Utter to Senior Humane Officer! Utter began her journey with the Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) as an Adoption Counselor in November 2019. She was offered the chance to pursue her passion for animal welfare after exhibiting all the outstanding qualities necessary to become a Humane Officer. Since becoming a Humane Officer, Utter has made a difference in the lives of countless animals experiencing abuse and neglect. We are so proud of how far she's come!
