When we hear the word rabies we often imagine a sick animal, foaming at the mouth, perhaps a crazed gleam in their eye. However, Rabies can have a variety of symptoms, some more obvious than others, and can affect any warm-blooded animal or human.

NEW SCHEDULE - Low-Cost Shot Clinic

Starting this month our low-cost shot clinic, hosted by Dr. Lewis Veterinary, will be at the Humane Society of Ventura County the first Saturday of each month from 10-1. For the time being the clinic held on the third Saturday has been canceled.

How Seniors Can Get Help To Take Care Of A New Pet

Pet ownership may benefit the elderly by providing companionship, reducing loneliness, increasing socialization, and giving a sense of purpose and meaning, according to a recent study on seniors' mental health. Considering that over 40 percent of older adults struggle with loneliness, getting a pet for them can drastically improve their emotional well-being. On top of the emotional and mental health benefits, pet ownership has various physical health benefits, such as helping seniors get regular aerobic exercise and easing pain for those facing chronic illnesses. However, pets have their needs, and it can be hard for some seniors to take care of their pets properly, especially if they live alone or are experiencing some health difficulties. However, there are ways they can get help to look after a new pet.
