Evacuee Animals Find Refuge at the Humane society of Ventura County

It was eerily calm in the Ojai Valley this morning... most people are going about their daily business despite the fact that Ventura County has had two fires in two days, each impacting thousands of residents and their animals. The Humane Society of Ventura County would also like to have an appearance of normality, but our Shelter in Ojai was staffed 24/7 opening our doors and hearts to those evacuated.

MORNING UPDATE 11/01 9:44 am Good morning friends. It has been a long night for the people and animals of Ventura County. We estimate that between 100-120 animals were brought to the Shelter throughout the night as a result of the Maria Fire. We are working on getting a full report together, including a full assessment of our needs to share with all of you later in the morning.

Evacuee Horses Find Safety at the Humane Society of Ventura County

Here at the Humane Society of Ventura County, we are continuously impressed with the level of care our community shows to those in need. In the past few weeks, we have all witnessed the tragedies taking place across the state of California as wildfires continue to burn. The past week these fires were felt close to home as the Tick Fire, Getty Fire, and yesterday the Easy Fire, erupted right here in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

HSVC Taking in Evacuee Animals

If authorities ask you to evacuate, please do so immediately, and take your animals with you. The Humane Society of Ventura County still has the capacity for both large and small animals. HSVC in Need of Horse Troughs

We anticipate reaching full capacity in our horse corral as evacuee horses continue to come in. We are currently in need of horse troughs (40-75 gallon only). If you live in the Ojai Valley area and have a few to loan us please put your name and number on them so we can return them. If you would like to purchase and deliver them that would be fine too. The Shelter is located at 402 Bryant Street in Ojai. Thank you!

Paws for a Cause October Classic

Special Thanks to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation for hosting the Humane Society of Ventura County during their October Classic Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019. An annual 10K and 5K run was held at the Ojai Valley Community Hospital also hosts Paws for a Cause dog walking event for those participants who walk a much shorter route with their K9 companions – many of which were dressed for Halloween.
