Pet of the Week - Jazzy

Jazzy is officially available for adoption! Jasmine, Jazzy for short, came to the shelter in mid-May after Humane Officers responded to a call regarding a skinny horse on a property in Ventura County. Officer King met with the owner who decided it was in Jazzy's best interest to be signed over to the HSVC to find a new home.

The gorgeous 8-year-old Thoroughbred mare underwent rectovaginal fistula surgery shortly after arriving at the HSVC to repair an injury she likely acquired after giving birth. Her surgery was performed by Dr. Cori Youngblood, DVM, MS, DACVS-LA, of  Humphrey, Giacopuzzi, & Assoc. Equine Hospital in Somis. Jazzy also had to be treated for an infection in her uterus and spent five days at Dr. April Armstrong's lab facility regaining her strength. We are happy to report Jazzy has fully recovered from her surgery and infection and is now ready for a home of her own!

Jazzy is very strong willed and is going to need an equally strong owner. This sassy girl is halter broke, but she still needs a lot of groundwork to learn respect for her handler. The staff is confident she will make a great horse for the right owner who is willing to put in the time to train her properly.

The HSVC is performing adoptions by appointment only due to the ongoing pandemic. If you think you are a good match for Jazzy, please visit our website and click the orange “Let’s Get Started” button to fill out an adoption appointment request to meet her. Please call the shelter at 805-646-6505 with any questions.
