The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.

Here at the Humane Society of Ventura County, we are continuously impressed with the level of care our community shows to those in need. In the past few weeks, we have all witnessed the tragedies taking place across the state of California as wildfires continue to burn. The past week these fires were felt close to home as the Tick Fire, Getty Fire, and yesterday the Easy Fire, erupted right here in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
If authorities ask you to evacuate, please do so immediately, and take your animals with you. The Humane Society of Ventura County still has the capacity for both large and small animals. Our doors are open to you. When possible please let us know you are coming by calling 805-646-6505. The Shelter is located at 402 Bryant Street in Ojai. Thank you and stay safe.
We anticipate reaching full capacity in our horse corral as evacuee horses continue to come in. We are currently in need of horse troughs (40-75 gallon only). If you live in the Ojai Valley area and have a few to loan us please put your name and number on them so we can return them. If you would like to purchase and deliver them that would be fine too. Starting Monday, November 3rd, the shelter will be switching over to its winter hours and will begin closing at 5 pm, Monday-Saturday. Thank you!
Special Thanks to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation for hosting the Humane Society of Ventura County during their October Classic Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019. An annual 10K and 5K run was held at the Ojai Valley Community Hospital also hosts Paws for a Cause dog walking event for those participants who walk a much shorter route with their K9 companions – many of which were dressed for Halloween.
This Sunday at Ventura Harbor! Ventura County Potters Guild presents the Bowl of Thanks on Sunday, November 3rd from 11 am to 4 pm.
Halloween is right around the corner with many of the festivities and celebrations going full swing by this coming weekend. Halloween can be a frightening and confusing time for your animals and without taking the proper precautions it could turn into a real nightmare. Start preparing early this year and avoid any surprises!
