HSVC staff recently wished a very happy 93rd birthday to longtime friend of the shelter, Allyn Wilkinson. Allyn and his sons, Dan and Dean, stopped by the shelter for a special celebration complete with decorations, cupcakes, and our entire staff present to sing happy birthday to Allyn.

According to Allyn, the HSVC has always been a special place for their family. Allyn’s late wife, Janet, used to volunteer at the shelter with their son, Dan, in the cat room. The pair loved playing with our shelter cats and giving them love while they waited for forever homes of their own. Janet’s love for cats and the shelter is even commemorated with a photo plaque displayed in our cat lobby and a paver stone in our memory garden.

“Allyn wanted to celebrate his birthday at the shelter to feel closer to Janet. She loved it here and was always a lover of all animals. They are like family to us, and we are so honored he chose to celebrate such a big milestone with our staff,” said Assistant Shelter Director Arlene MacSween.

We also want to give a special shoutout to Sharon and Arlene for making lots of special goodies for all in attendance to enjoy. Happy 93rd birthday Allyn!
