Celebrate Spooky Season with the HSVC!

Halloween is right around the corner and the HSVC is getting into the ghoulish spirit! We have lots of fang-tastic activities planned this spooky season including an online costume contest, a wickedly fun photo booth, and a drive-through doggie trick or treat! Each activity is contactless to ensure the safety of you and your boo-tiful pets. Safety first!

We will be hosting a spooktacular online costume contest via Instagram. To enter, follow us on Instagram @hsvc_ojai, post a photo of your pet in their favorite Halloween attire, tag @hsvc_ojai, and use the hashtag #HSVCcostumecostest. Whether you live locally or across the country, we want to see how creative you can be with your furry friends! Winners of each category (Cat, Dog, and Exotic) will be chosen and announced on Monday, November 2nd, and receive a special mystery prize.

For our Ventura County locals, the shelter will be hosting an in-person photo booth complete with festive costumes for both our two-legged and four-legged friends! The hauntingly festive photo booth will be set up on the patio in front of our main office located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai. Stop by and show your Halloween spirit any time between October 19th -31st from 10 am – 4 pm.

What’s a Halloween celebration without some Trick-or-Treating, right? On Saturday, October 31st, the HSVC welcomes all dog owners to stop by the shelter for a drive-through doggie Trick-or-Treat! We will be giving out dog treat goodie bags with treats generously donated by our friends at Charlie Bear and Hounds & Gatos. Furry friends are also encouraged to perform a “trick” to get a brand new dog toy.

Please remember to follow public safety protocols when participating in any of our Halloween fun at the shelter. Maintain a six-foot distance and please wear a mask when arriving. Please call the shelter at 805-646-6505 with any questions. Happy Halloween!
