HSVC Welcomes New Volunteer Coordinator, Astrid!

The Humane Society of Ventura County is excited to welcome Astrid Derringer as our new Volunteer Coordinator! Astrid began her journey with the shelter in September of 2022 as a Humane Officer trainee. Her passion for caring for our shelter animals soon led her to pursue the role of Volunteer Coordinator when the opportunity arose. We're excited for her to start this new chapter in her career!

For most of her life, Astrid has had a strong desire to help animals. Watching her hero Steve Irwin work with animals and educate the world about them was a major influence on her during her early years. Starting with her first rescue, a frog aptly named “Froggy”, Derringer's desire to help animals only grew from there. She is now the proud pawrent of her fur child, Chow Mane, and continues to help HSVC make a difference in the lives of countless animals every day.

When asked what she is most excited about in her new role, Astrid replied, "Having already worked for the shelter in a different role, I already have a working relationship with many of our existing volunteers. I'm excited to grow those relationships even more. Recruiting new volunteers will also be a huge focus of mine while increasing training opportunities for existing volunteers. I also want to expand the types of volunteer opportunities offered to our volunteers. The more people I can get involved with the shelter, the better for our animals!"

Congratulations on your new role, Astrid!
