Department of Investigations Completes Self Defense Course at CRI

By Humane Society of Ventura County

Members of the HSVC Department of Investigations attended and completed a self-defense training course at the Controlled Response Institute (CRI) in Bakersfield, CA last week. The 24-hour course featured both classroom and realistic scenario-based training with the goal of instilling confidence through making better critical decisions in self-defense situations. Such skills are vital to the safety and protection of our Humane Officers as they venture out into the community to investigate cases of animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty. Humane Investigations Director K. King, Humane Officer Utter, and Humane Officer Trainees R. Gonzalez and A. Derringer each passed the class with flying colors. Way to go team!

Thank You ASAP Cats & Kitten Rescue!

By Humane Society of Ventura County

Six premature neonatal kittens were delivered to HSVC in desperate need of critical care on Monday, April 10th. With no mama, their immediate needs were beyond our shelter's capacity to provide. Thankfully a fellow rescue, ASAP Cats & Kittens, answered our call for help! Their team fired up their brand new incubator to be ready for our fragile felines upon arrival and secured highly experienced foster parents to provide 24-hour care. We are elated to report that all six tiny fur babes are growing healthfully and enjoying the benefits of a proper cuddle-puddle!  In addition to ASAP’s immediate willingness to care for a half dozen neonates, they kindly donated essential supplies and resources to bolster HSVC’s new Foster program. We are infinitely grateful for their partnership and protection of felines ranging from premature neonate orphans to assisting with a feral mother and her new born kittens.  Thank you to the fine women of ASAP Cats & Kittens for rising to the occasion and providing life-saving care to precious creatures in need!

The HSVC would like to extend a big thank you to our friends from Amazon Oxnard OXR1 for presenting us with a generous check of $2500! This generous donation was made possible by Amazon Gives and OXR1 Mental Health and Well-Being. Not only did the amazon team give us this generous gift, but they also volunteered to help us with shelter cleaning duties! It was a pleasure welcoming a great group of animal loves who pitched in to support the HSVC team. Thank you again, Amazon team! If you or your company are interested in donating, volunteering, or learning more about what we do at the Humane Society of Ventura County, please contact us at 805-646-6505 or reach out to Community Development Manager, Steve McCurry, at [email protected].
