The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
Minna and her friends formed the All Things Natural Club over the summer with the hopes of making a difference in their community. The group of nature lovers raised money by selling plants at their roadside plant stand. All of the proceeds were donated to the HSVC in support of Bagel the cat’s surgery. From the entire staff, we want to say thank you to Minna and her friends for their donation and their kindness to animals!
Looks like the summer heat is sticking around for a little longer! A heat advisory has been issued for the interior portions of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties this week with temperatures expected to reach between the upper 90s and 105 degrees and 35-40 mph Santa Ana winds. Pet owners, please remember to keep your pets cool as temperatures rise!

After being displaced for over a week due to the Creek Fire, we are happy to report that Julie and Mike’s family, along with their nine dogs and five cats, were able to finally return home!
The HSVC would like to extend a big thank you to Darron, a kind supporter who donated $100 to the shelter and a $30 Starbucks gift card to the clinic staff after bringing in his dog, Frigate, to be neutered.
September is National Preparedness Month and the Humane Society of Ventura County has certainly taken this to heart. The HSVC has a long history of providing shelter for the animals of families evacuated from natural disasters. Every year we prepare our supplies and facilities to be ready if and when disaster strikes. Thanks to the generosity and support of those who have donated crates, we are more than prepared for this year’s fire season. The excess supplies will be sold off on a first-come-first-serve basis for anybody who would like to join the HSVC in being ready. The first step in being prepared for an emergency is to create a disaster preparedness plan for you and your pets. Your ‘go bag’ should include a way to transport and house your pet temporarily.
A massive wildfire known as the Creek Fire sparked in Fresno County over Labor Day weekend. On Tuesday, September 8th, the Humane Society of Ventura County took in 14 animals from the Fresno area as evacuees from the blaze.
Southern California is experiencing a scorching heatwave with temperatures soaring into the 100s on some occasions. Remember that when the weather is hot for you, it is much hotter for your furry friends. To demonstrate this, the HSVC is providing a daily heat report to show just how hot common surfaces outside can get.
