Happy National Feral Cat Day!

October 16th is National Feral Cat Day! This is a day dedicated to raising awareness about feral cats, promoting TNR (trap, neuter, release), and recognizing those who care for them. The HSVC is committed to reducing the overpopulation of feral and stray cats in our community. Thank you to all the feral cat trappers in Ventura County who help us accomplish our goal!

Help Us Celebrate Vet Tech Appreciation Week!

In honor of Vet Tech Appreciation Week, Volunteer Coordinator Audra Lucas has organized a safe and creative way to show appreciation for our Vet Techs! We invite you to come out to the shelter and chalk on our sidewalks a message to our three hard-working Vet Techs/Assistants: Christina, Natalie, and Megan! Please make sure to stay six feet from others and wear masks at all times when stopping by the shelter, safety first.

Governor Newsom Signs New Microchipping Law

On September 18th, 2020, Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill No. 573 into law for the state of California. Effective January 1st, 2021, public animal shelters and animal control agencies, including the Humane Society of Ventura County, will be prohibited from releasing a dog or cat to an owner seeking to reclaim or adopt the animal unless it is or will be microchipped. The microchip must have the current information of the new or present owner acquiring the animal.

Thank You Minna and the All Things Natural Club!

Minna and her friends formed the All Things Natural Club over the summer with the hopes of making a difference in their community. The group of nature lovers raised money by selling plants at their roadside plant stand. All of the proceeds were donated to the HSVC in support of Bagel the cat’s surgery. From the entire staff, we want to say thank you to Minna and her friends for their donation and their kindness to animals!

Summer Temperatures Are Sticking Around, Stay Cool!

Looks like the summer heat is sticking around for a little longer! A heat advisory has been issued for the interior portions of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties this week with temperatures expected to reach between the upper 90s and 105 degrees and 35-40 mph Santa Ana winds. Pet owners, please remember to keep your pets cool as temperatures rise!
