Zuko is Happier Than Ever!

We have a heartwarming update for our boy Zuko! After 290 days at the shelter, the 2-year-old pup found his forever home with Denise in mid-August of this year. He has been hamming it up ever since! When he's not accompanying his new mom on adventures, the adorable Shepherd mix spends his days lounging around the house and bringing joy to everyone he meets. We can't think of a pup more deserving of such a happily ever after!

Zuko began his journey with HSVC in mid-November 2023. He was brought to the shelter as an owner surrender with his best friend, Scout. While Scout quickly found a new forever home, Zuko wasn't so lucky. Months passed and our staff couldn't believe a new family hadn't scooped up the sweet pup!

Denise, a long-term volunteer, bonded with Zuko early on. She had recently lost her companion dog, Stitch, but wasn't sure she was ready to open her home to another pup. However, her connection with Zuko was undeniable. His friendly personality and affinity for tennis balls chipped away at Denise's heart until she couldn't resist making him a member of her family.

According to Denise, it didn't take long for Zuko to feel comfortable in his new surroundings. "On day one, he jumped right on the couch. He has settled in well and we have our routines that he was pretty quick at picking up. We are still working on 'there are so many fun things to do, you really don't need a ball the entire time!' and I got him a BARK BOX subscription," said Denise. The spoiled pup loves traveling with his new mom, especially the car ride to go on a new adventure!

Zuko is still learning his manners while on a leash, but thanks to his trainer he has improved leaps and bounds. The HSVC alum is even working to be a regular at the Purrmaid Cafe! Denise's previous fur besite, Stitch, was only one of two dogs allowed in the cat cafe. Zuko is determined to be the third!

Denise recently had his doggie DNA tested. In addition to Staffordshire Terriers and Australian Shepherd, Zuko's results revealed he even had a little Chihuahua and Poddle mix in him! The test also shared that Zuko had two familial matches, including a Border Collie that lives in nearby Los Angeles.

From all of us at the HSVC, thank you Denise for giving our boy the loving home he deserves!
