Volunteer Spotlight - Thank You Maren!

maren.volunteer.story.jpg

As often as she is able, Maren is at the shelter in Ojai spending time with the dogs. She's been volunteering for over two years and mostly focuses on our big or shy dogs. Maren started volunteering after her German Shepherd passed away and wanted to find a way to continue working with dogs. She had donated to the HSVC for many years and decided that volunteering was something she wanted to do to help out.

Maren has worked with many of our dogs but holds a fondness with our larger dogs, like the German Shepherds and Huskies. One of her favorites was Sequoia, a Dane/Shepherd mix that had spent over a year in our care. Maren was always greeted with an enthusiastic tail wag when Sequoia saw her. Sequoia has since been adopted and while Maren misses her, she knows Sequoia is happy. Maren also enjoys working with shy dogs. These dogs often just need a little more time and patience, and Maren is happy to provide that.

When asked, she had this to say about volunteering, "You should volunteer because the animals need our companionship. You can teach them so much by being with them." Being a volunteer provides just that. Our volunteers help our dogs and cats so much just by spending time with them and giving them the love and affection they need.
