Volunteer Spotlight - Thank You Dominic!

Whether assisting our kennel staff caring for animals, answering phones, or organizing an event, our volunteers are truly worth their weight in gold. Dominic has been volunteering for the Humane Society of Ventura County since 2015. Over the years, he has helped the Shelter in a variety of areas working with our animals and helping at the various events the Shelter puts on throughout the year. However, what he enjoys the most is working with the dogs.

Dominic first started volunteering alongside his mother, Carol, as a junior volunteer after their family dog had passed away. He missed interacting with animals and figured the best way to spend time with the animals was to give back and volunteer at an animal shelter.

One of Dominic’s favorite dogs is Lucas, a 4-year-old neutered black and tan Chihuahua. Lucas has been at the Shelter for almost two months and is a favorite among many volunteers, “He’s super playful and affectionate!”, commented Dominic. Lucas also resembles his current dog that the family had adopted from the HSVC four years ago.

“One of my favorite things to do while volunteering is just being with the animals,” Dominic says. Dominic also loves helping out at our annual Santa Paws events. Last year, he helped families pick out costumes for the animals to wear during their photos, and he had a blast. He’s looking forward to Santa Paws this year and can’t wait until November!

Our volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of the animals at the Shelter. By spending time with them, volunteers help the dogs, cats, and other critters feel less stressed and more comfortable while waiting for their forever homes.
