We love our Volunteers! HSVC Celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Month

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! As an organization founded by volunteers, these dedicated individuals share a special place in our hearts. From socializing frightened kittens and exercising our most energetic dogs to mucking stalls and working offsite events, this group represents the very best of our animal-loving community. They spend countless hours putting the needs of the animals before their own, and we are so grateful for their service!

The HSVC has many opportunities for animal lovers looking to make a difference. While a majority of our volunteers spend their time interacting with furry friends, we also have volunteers who work offsite events, make pet food deliveries, and more. Each volunteer is equally valuable in helping us achieve our mission! For a full list of volunteer opportunities at the shelter, check out our new Volunteer Directory Board.

"Since starting at HSVC I have been consistently amazed at our volunteer’s dedication to our animals. From spending time with the quietest of cats and leash training our most rambunctious dogs to helping members of our community get their animals the vaccinations they need. Our volunteers do it all with a smile. This past year our 80+ volunteers spent over 3,000 hours of their own time working with animals in need. The dedication and passion our volunteers show is truly inspiring and pushes all of us to do the best we can for the animals and our community. From our volunteers who are here once a month to our volunteers who spend multiple days a week at our shelter, they are all important to our mission of ensuring the welfare of animals in Ventura County. We could not do what we do without them. Thank you volunteers of HSVC for everything you do!" said Volunteer Coordinator Astrid Derringer.

Left: Staff hosted a volunteer appreciation lunch on April 28th to show our volunteers how much we value their service. The lunch, catered by Marché Gourmet Delicatessen, consisted of a variety of delicious sandwiches and sides. Staff even took the time to make homemade desserts to share with our volunteers! HSVC Volunteer Coordinator, Astrid Derringer, also presented each volunteer with a certificate recognizing their hours of service to the shelter. Some of our volunteers have performed over 500 hours of service to support us! From the entire HSVC family, thank you volunteers for helping us make a difference in our community.

We are always looking for more volunteers! If you would like to join our amazing volunteer team, please visit our website for more information and to submit an online application. Once completed, our Volunteer Coordinator, Astrid, will reach out to you with the next steps in the onboarding process. This process includes creating a profile in our Volunteer Portal, completing an online "Feer Free Shelter" training, and attending an in-person orientation. Due to an increased number of applications, it may take several weeks to be scheduled for an in-person orientation. We appreciate your patience with this process and thank you for choosing to volunteer with HSVC!
