Congratulations Gretel!
Posted by Franki Williams · December 01, 2015 11:53 AM
Nearly 8 weeks ago two small kittens were brought into the shelter after being found all alone by a kind woman who had heard them meowing near her property. Hansel and Gretel were very frightened and required veterinary care when they first arrived. They spent the first couple weeks here in our isolation room. We featured these two in that weeks Five Dollar Friday and thanks to our supporters were able to raise the money to help cover their medical treatment.

A New Life for Baby!
Posted by Franki Williams · November 03, 2015 1:25 PM · 1 reaction
This past Saturday was an emotional day at the shelter. Sue, who is a regular volunteer at the shelter, has been working with senior sweetheart Baby since she arrived from Ventura County Animal Services a couple months ago. At 14 years old, Baby was our oldest dog resident, and to be quite honest she was just plain over being in the kennels.

Happy Tails Freddy!
Posted by Franki Williams · October 24, 2015 4:45 PM
Sometimes at the shelter we have animals who it seems are just here forever. It can be especially difficult for new volunteers or staff when you fall in love with a sweet dog or cat who is just continuously overlooked. You feature them in your media outlets, take them to events, you do everything to bring extra attention to all their charms. Though many folks are interested, they watch all their little fur friends finding their forever homes while they patiently wait.

Chespi - Home at Last!
Posted by Franki Williams · October 17, 2015 4:10 PM
We have wonderful news! Our dear friend Chespi has gone to his forever home! Chespi was rescued in the field by one of our Humane Officers all the way back in January. He was extremely underweight and very frightened when he first arrived. Officer Hoffman, his rescuer, took him under her wing and would take him home at night so he could get used to being in a loving family environment, something he may not have ever experienced.

A Happy Beginning For Missy
Posted by Franki Williams · October 12, 2015 12:50 PM
Our dear sweet senior Missy left the building on Monday in the loving arms of a caring senior human. Missy had been at the shelter for over a month before finding her forever home. We estimated that Missy was between 12-14 years old and has mammary tumors that are to dangerous to have removed.

A New Home for Toby!
Posted by Franki Williams · October 06, 2015 11:01 AM
Congratulations to Hank, now named Toby, on his new life with Curt and Viollette Menefee! Toby, came in as a stray about two weeks ago and was never claimed. Toby is definitely an unusual mix, our best guess being a Welsh Corgi and French Bulldog mix. He was a happy guy from the get-go and this little guy could move on those tiny legs.

Happy Tails to Scooter!
Posted by Franki Williams · September 30, 2015 11:53 AM
Another wonderful success story! This little buddy is Scooter. Scooter had a rough start when he first arrived at the shelter when he was only 8 weeks old. Scooter was very ill and for a while there it did not look good. We featured Scooter and his story for our Five Dollar Friday, an opportunity for our community to help raise funds when situations such as these arise. Our supporters were so taken by our fragile little Scooter and the funds were quickly raised to get him healthy again. Scooter stayed at the Vet's for almost two weeks!

A Home For Odin!
Posted by Franki Williams · September 29, 2015 12:29 PM
We have big news! The HSVC is happy to inform our supporters that Odin, our resident tri-paw has found his forever home! Odin and his story is one we will never forget. We are sure many of you will recognize his smiling face if you have visited the shelter in the past 5 months. It seems like ages ago since Odin was brought to the shelter by our Humane Officers after responding to a call from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department regarding a dog with an exposed bone in his foot that has was eating away at. When Humane Officers arrived on the scene, they saw Odin tied to the fence with no food, water, or shelter. Odin was taken directly to a veterinarian by our Officers and after examination it was evident the leg would need to be amputated.

A Wonderful Life for Nelson
Posted by Amanda Volden · September 04, 2015 3:29 PM
We are so happy for Nelson on his new life with Kiesha and Jaya! Nelson is about 9 years old and was transferred from Ventura County Animal Services a little over a month ago with his buddy Willie (who just found his forever home last week).
