Wrigley Hit a Home Run with His Forever Home!
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · September 03, 2025 1:33 PM · 1 reaction
Wrigley, formerly Aaron, arrived at the shelter in mid-August 2024 with his mama, Chloe, and three brothers. Just one-week-old at the time, the quad of cuties were named after men cast on the popular reality TV show, Love Island. They spent several weeks in a loving foster home before returning to the shelter in search of their own forever homes. With his precious face and playful personality, it's no surprise that Aaron caught the eye of his future mama, Taylor, in no time. The pair recently celebrated Wrigley's first Gotcha Day anniversary!

Biscuit's Recipe for Love
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · August 07, 2025 12:00 PM

Many in our community will remember the story of Baker, a 2-year-old miniature Poodle who stole hearts after being found as a stray along the highway in mid-February 2024. When he arrived at the shelter, Baker was in rough shape. The good Samaritan who brought him to HSVC found him underweight, extremely matted, suffering from overgrown nails, and battling painful infections in his eyes, ears, and paws. Despite his condition, Baker’s sweet spirit never dimmed. With time, love, and a lot of TLC from our dedicated staff, the sweet pup made a full recovery and found his happily ever after with Thaidra and his new brother, Blue!

Precious
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · July 19, 2025 5:00 PM

This success story is just as precious as the pup it's about! Three-year-old Precious is doing better than ever, living happily ever after with her new family. She is one of five pint-sized pups who spent nearly two years under protective custody as part of an ongoing humane investigation that began in March 2023. Their case was officially resolved in February 2025, allowing for each dog to finally be made available for adoption. Similar to her furry friends, Precious was quickly scooped up by Dawn and her family. The spunky pooch has been living the good life ever since!

A Beautiful New Beginning for Beauty
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · July 14, 2025 11:16 AM · 1 reaction

Bright-eyed and strong-willed Beauty has finally found the happily ever after she deserves! She is thriving with her new mama, Alanna, and has become a symbol of hope and resilience for all who know her story. The 16-year-old Quarterhorse was fighting for her life when she was surrendered to our Humane Officers during a cruelty investigation. She was severely underweight and suffering from a skin condition called rain rot, which covered much of her body. Despite her condition, a spark remained in the mare's eyes. Over time, Beauty's wounds faded, her weight returned, and her spirit began to shine through. That spirit, along with her stunning good looks and sweet personality, landed Beauty the best forever home we could've dreamed of!

Double the Love, Double the Max!
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · July 09, 2025 12:00 PM

We’re thrilled to share an extra-special adoption update this summer: Michelle has adopted another Max! That’s right, her home is now blessed with two Maxes, and both have stories that remind us of the power of patience, healing, and love. The newest member of Michelle’s family is a 10-year-old German Shepherd who came to us earlier this year through a heartbreaking neglect case. Humane Officers responded to a call in the field and brought Max into our care in early 2025. It was immediately clear he had been through a great deal. The neglected pup was suffering from a severe flea allergy that had caused painful skin infections and significant hair loss. His back legs showed signs of stiffness and arthritis, likely the result of long-term, untreated joint issues. Though he was clearly uncomfortable, Max’s gentle nature and soulful eyes told us everything we needed to know. He was a dog who hadn’t lost hope.

Loverboy Has a New Lease on Life
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · June 30, 2025 11:18 AM · 1 reaction

Sometimes, love finds you when you least expect it. That's exactly what happened when Jules and Nick visited HSVC! Adoption wasn’t part of the plan; Jules was inquiring about fostering, and Nick wanted to check out the dogs under our care. On their way through the shelter, a very vocal cat in the outdoor catio made his presence known to the couple. He meowed, chirped, and angled for their attention with the charm only a determined former street cat could muster.
At the time, the cat room was closed for lunch, so Nick and Jules continued on their tour. However, on their way back, a team member was available and asked if they’d like to meet the chatty gentleman whose name was, fittingly, Loverboy. The moment Jules sat down, Loverboy hopped right into her lap, and she burst into happy tears. Loverboy had clearly lived a hard life. He was healing from an abscess, his ears were torn and weathered, and X-rays would later show his belly still held gravel and sand. He’d been brought in by a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) volunteer, and though his body showed signs of struggle, his spirit was open and affectionate.

A Perfect Home for Prieto
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · May 26, 2025 12:00 PM

Three cheers for Prieto! The 28-year-old Quarterhorse officially found his forever home with Chari on May 19th. This adoption came to be thanks to Chari’s niece, who spotted Prieto online and reached out to us while searching for a new equine companion for her aunt. After recently losing their own beloved senior horse, the family was hoping to find a gentle partner for their remaining horse, Banche, and a calm trail companion for Chari. Preito went home as a foster-to-adopt (FTA) placement for one month to ensure it was the right fit, and it absolutely was! We couldn't be happier for this deserving senior guy!

One Year Down & Many More To Go For Bugsy!
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · May 20, 2025 1:23 PM · 1 reaction

In December 2023, a young Welsh Pony named Bronco arrived at HSVC. He had been surrendered by his previous owner, who could no longer care for him. At just three years old, Bronco had seen very little of the world—he had never been trained, handled only minimally, and had only experienced being haltered and loaded into a trailer. But even with so little experience, one thing was clear: Bronco had a spark. His personality stood out from the start. Lively, curious, and full of potential, Bronco showed all the signs of being an ideal candidate for someone willing to start fresh and guide him through the learning process. It didn’t take long for that someone to find him.

Gunner's New Latitude In The PNW
Posted by Humane Society of Ventura County · April 12, 2025 12:00 PM

In May of 2022, Gunner was transferred to HSVC through one of our rescue partners, and for over 200 days, he patiently waited for the right person to take him home. During his time at the shelter, the German Shepherd mix was a regular on pack walks, always walking gently on his leash and letting his delicate and sweet personality shine through. Despite his loving nature, Gunner’s large size and energetic personality made it hard to find a home that was the perfect fit. In December 2022, Gunner’s wait came to an end. The Harrisons, a family ready to open their hearts to a new dog, saw Gunner and knew immediately he was the one. Gunner finally had the forever family he had been waiting for!
