In the early year of 2000, Ron and his wife, Helen, met a wonderful couple while riding motorcycles who became very close friends, the Treutelaars, Cyndy and Doug. Over years through casual conversations, he learned that Cyndy was the president of the Humane Society of Ventura County in Ojai and would occasionally ask for advice on financial issues at the shelter. As a Financial Director in the hospital management field for over 30 years, Ron was intrigued by their conversations.

After retiring in 2013 and traveling with his wife to many international destinations, Ron was searching for a good cause and purpose in life. He wanted to “give back” to the community using his financial talent. After researching other volunteer programs, Cyndy approached Ron about a position with the board of the Humane Society of Ventura County in 2019. He accepted and is happy to be a member of the board and assist in the guidance and oversight of the HSVC.
