Pet of the Week - Hero

Hero the horse is thriving thanks to the diligent care of local veterinarians and the Humane Society of Ventura County staff.

Handsome Hero is a 9-year-old neutered male Thoroughbred/Cross mix. He was brought to the shelter in October of 2018 after being rescued from a property in Camarillo by Humane Officer Winwood and staff.

Hero, along with another male horse named Archer, was found living in appalling conditions. Hero was also shockingly emaciated, and his hooves were in horrible condition, making it painful for him to stand. He is now in the custody of the Humane Society of Ventura County and doing well under the care of staff and local veterinarians.

Thanks to the dedication of our staff and local veterinarians, Hero is up to a normal weight and in good health. He has become a staff favorite and a close friend to the other horses at the shelter. Hero's loveable and sweet personality makes him a joy to interact with. He will do well in a loving and spacious environment and can benefit from some training.

He is now available for adoption. Visit https://www.hsvc.org/adopt for more information.
