Flying into Retirement: Honoring Oliver Bird's 33 Years of Service as HSVC's Mascot

After serving 33 years as HSVC’s beloved onsite mascot, Oliver Bird has officially retired! He has been placed into a loving home to live out the remainder of his years. His retirement comes just shy of his 38th birthday.

Oliver's journey with us has been nothing short of remarkable. The spirited and lively Cockatoo arrived at our shelter 33 years ago as an owner surrender. His vibrant, colorful personality and striking presence captured the hearts of everyone who visited. Throughout his extended stay at HSVC, Oliver received exceptional care and abundant love from our devoted staff and volunteers. He formed countless friendships, particularly with the children who visited the shelter, consistently bringing smiles and laughter with his playful nature.

Oliver's antics, including delightful dance routines, birthday serenades, and endless amusing one-liners, infused our staff’s daily duties at the shelter with joy and warmth. Though we are saddened to see him go, knowing that Oliver will now reside in a nurturing home brings us immense happiness.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has played a part in Oliver’s journey—staff who helped care for him and offer companionship, visitors who showered him with affection, and supporters who continuously gifted him toys, treats, and more. Many of you contributed to the foundation that allowed him to thrive while waiting for his forever home. Oliver's retirement stands as a testament to the transformative power of love, kindness, and dedication. Congratulations, Oliver Bird!
