The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
One of the things that makes the Humane Society of Ventura County so unique is its ability to house and rehabilitate neglected and abused horses on its 4.4 acre property in Ojai. Many may remember, back in 2008, when the HSVC rescued 37 horses, including 9 pregnant mares, from a ranch in Ventura County.
Responsible pet ownership includes making sure your pet is happy & healthy-nutritious food, routine grooming, exercise, regular health exams, and vaccinations, are all part of being a pet parent. Ralph has a smile for everyone! This 3 year old Norwich Terrier is on the search for his forever family. He is a very well-rounded little guy who enjoys being around people and is always up for anything!

Last week the Humane Society of Ventura County was the lucky recipient of a boy Scout Eagle Project. Michael Hansen, of Troop 179 in Ventura, approached the HSVC to see where they could be of service. After meeting with our Shelter Director, Michael was inspired to create a peaceful area at the shelter for our customers to enjoy.

This happy guy is our new friend Gobi! Gobi is a 3 year old, Labrador Retriever mix with a heart of gold. We are still getting to know him but from what we have observed he is a very sweet guy!
Who can resist a kitten! Most people melt like a popsicle on the 4th of July when they see them. Sometimes though, we adopt one and after a few nights of no sleep, clearing them off the counters, detangling them off the couch we ask, why? Why? Kittens are often brought to shelters because their human adopters were not prepared to bring them into their home. We ask all you new kitten parents to take a deep breath and make a kitten plan!
