Identifying Stray & Feral Cats

Spring is here and we all know what that means……KITTIES! There are many homeless cats on the prowl and we are often asked how to tell the difference between “feral” cats and “stray” cats in your neighborhood. Knowing how to tell the difference can help inform you how best to interact with a cat or what type of intervention would be in the cat’s best interest.

Pet of the Week - Sam

Sweet Sam was rescued by our Humane Officers on March 12th and has been thriving at the shelter ever since. This 2 year old male, Maltese mix, is going to need a loving family with the time and motivation to give young Sam all the training he will require.

 Are you on the lookout for not one, but two charming cats to make your house a home? Notes and Little Boy, two brothers, are a bonded pair that were surrendered to the shelter in the beginning of March. These two sweethearts are very friendly and enjoy a good cuddle.

Meet the Flintstones!

Meet the Flintstones! Wilma, Betty, Pebbles, Hanna, Pearl, Fred, and Barney were born on March 25th. Their mother, Foxy, was brought to the shelter as a stray mid March. It was clear that she was full term pregnant and not long after her arrival she gave birth to 5 healthy girls and 2 healthy boys.

Pet of the Week - Rosie

Rosie, a beautiful tortie, was abandoned at the shelter all the way back in October. On sunny days you can find Rosie laying around in our outdoor adult cat room where she lives with up to 15 other cats at any one time!

Congratulations Foxy!

Congratulations to sweet Foxy who gave birth to seven beautiful puppies on March 26th! Foxy was brought to the shelter as a stray not long ago. It was clear that she was full term pregnant and not long after her arrival she gave birth to 5 girls and 2 boys.

The HSVC Welcomes Greg A. Cooper as Director of Community Outreach

The Humane Society of Ventura County is pleased to welcome Greg A. Cooper to the team! Cooper began his relationship with the HSVC in 1990 while working as a photographer for the Ojai Valley News. Since then, Cooper has worked as a volunteer photographer for the shelter documenting their animals, staff, facilities and fundraising events such as the annual Santa Paws.
