The Humane Society of Ventura County is a compassionate care shelter and non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and adoption of animals in need throughout Ventura County.
Jack is officially available for adoption! Thank you to everyone who has made this day possible, it has definitely been a community effort. All the hard work, donations, and dedicated staff and volunteers involved in his well-being has paid off big time! However our work is not done until Jack is placed into a loving home that can meet his needs.

The Humane Society of Ventura County is in need of lumber to build shelves. In preparation for fire a disaster the HSVC has been organizing supplies inside their storage sheds.
For the past five years Kali Brooks has been a volunteer with us here at the Humane Society of Ventura County helping out in a variety of areas.
Taking your dog for regular walks provides more than just the necessary exercise to keep your dog in good shape. It is also a great way to bond with your animal and gives your dog the opportunity to follow their instincts with a variety of sensory stimulations that they may not get the chance to experience at home. However, it is important to make sure that your dog gets the most out of its regular walks by taking into consideration a few safety guidelines.
With human obesity on the rise, the nation’s pets are affected too - in fact, the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention’s latest survey estimated that nearly 60% of dogs in the USA are obese. Possible reasons range from owners’ lack of time and energy to exercise, to a lack of understanding about proper pet nutrition and portion control. While the recent hot weather has made it a little more difficult to exercise safely in the heat, the autumn months are the perfect opportunity to reset your dog’s exercise and nutritional balance. You may even find that it really boosts your own health and wellbeing too, putting you and your canine companion on track for a happy, healthy new year.
A very special thank you to Julie Billingsly for her generous donation of handmade blankets for the shelter animals! Julie is a new volunteer with Comfort for Critters, a program that creates handmade blankets to comfort pets living in animal shelters or with foster-families.
With so many homeless animals in need of shelter, nonprofit animal rescue organizations such as the Humane Society of Ventura County rely heavily on donations to keep our doors open. Here at the HSVC we are very fortunate to have the support of our community on many different levels. Our dedicated volunteers play many roles that include helping socialize the animals, performing grounds work, photographing animals, and assisting at the front desk. Businesses throughout the county show their support by hosting events, contributing portions of their sales, donating goods and services, or placing a donation box at their establishment. Even the youngest members of our community get involved through schools and youth organizations or independently by collecting goods on their birthdays and donating funds earned from doing chores around the home and neighborhood.
