Shelter Dogs Enjoy a Day at the Beach!

Our dogs are our best friends, we would do anything to keep them happy and protected. However, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) received 199,000 cases related to potential poisoning of a family pet - an increase of 10% from 2016. Whether you are looking to become a part of the pet foster program or are adding a new dog to your family, you will need to make some changes to your home and lifestyle to ensure that you keep them safe and healthy. What products do you have at home that could poison your dog and what can you do to avoid putting your beloved pet at risk?
Whether you are an Ojai resident or just visiting this beautiful town you may have seen this iconic glassware in many of Ojai’s local shops. Behind this stemless glassware is Ojai local, Karal Gregory, who came up with the idea to create the Ojai Spirit products in order to raise funds for those in need as a result of the Thomas Fire.
The Humane Society of Ventura County will be closed to the public in observation of Memorial Day. We will return to our regular hours on Tuesday, May 29th.
The Humane Society of Ventura County is in need of Kuranda beds in a variety of sizes for the animals here at the shelter. With 48 kennels and an additional 21 dog yards we are putting a call out for these heavy duty beds for each of the kennel and yards.
Humane Society of Ventura County Director of Community Outreach Greg Cooper completed the Ventura County Leadership Academy at a graduation ceremony at San Buenaventura City Hall Thursday evening, May 10, 2018. One of 33 participants of VCLA Cohort XXIII, Cooper met one day a month since last September learning about the issues, challenges and opportunities within Ventura County.
Handsome Benny is a sight for sore eyes! This one year old German Shepherd is in need of an experienced handler who will be dedicated to making sure he lives a happy and well rounded life. Benny was brought to the Humane Society of Ventura County on February 6th from one of our rescue partners and has been a hit with our staff and volunteers.
Fifty six percent of dog owners have traveled with their pet in a vehicle at least once a month over the past year. Summer’s coming, and that means many dogs will be heading out on vacation with their owners. If your dog is one of them, there are a few things you can do to ensure your trip is a safe and happy one. Start by making sure your dog has up to date shots and is microchipped. If something should happen and he runs away, you stand a much better chance of getting him back if you do. Here are some other tips to keep in mind.
