Meet Your Local Hero - Navid Khoi

A very special thank you to volunteer Navid Khoi for sharing his skills and expertise with the Humane Society of Ventura County.

I really love working with animals,” Navid Khoi mentions as he says hello to a few dogs down in the play yards. Navid has been volunteering for three months and already has his favorites. Though he loves them all, he admits that Eve has a special place in his heart.

Navid is volunteering with us for his Communication Capstone. This is a program run by California State University, Channel Islands that requires its Communication students to donate 75 hours to a local non-profit organization. When Navid began searching for an organization to work with, he heard about the HSVC and how we’ve been no-kill for almost 20 years. He gave us a call and was very excited to begin volunteering with us. After meeting our staff, he knew this was the place he wanted to donate his time, “Everyone is so welcoming. I feel like I’m part of a huge family.”

Navid’s strong points are research and social media, which has been a great help as we continue to expand our resources and social media presence. When asked why social media, he explained, “I really want to help bring people in so that more people can meet these wonderful animals.”

Navid has been working on our Instagram and Vine accounts, as well as our Twitter and Facebook. He spent time interviewing some of our volunteers for National Volun- teer Appreciation Week and helps prep information for our website.

Navid will be graduating this month, though he hopes to still come by every so often when he can. It was a pleasure working with him and we wish him the best of luck!
