Join Us in Celebrating National Make A Dog's Day on October 22nd!

Each year, the HSVC partners with Kirby Subaru to celebrate National Make A Dog's Day. The goal of this day, observed on October 22nd, is to give all dogs the best day of their lives. Whether it's adopting a shelter pup or simply giving your own pet some extra treats, every furry friend deserves to feel special and loved!

Did you know about 6.3 million companion animals are brought to U.S. shelters every year? About half of those animals are dogs who have been surrendered by their owners, found as strays on the street, or abandoned. National Make A Dog's Day aims to bring awareness to these animals and encourage people to adopt instead of shop when considering welcoming a four-legged friend into their home.

*Please note the puppies in the photo above have all already found their forever homes.*

October is also recognized nationally as Subaru Loves Pets month. To celebrate, our friends at Kirby Subaru are providing our Shelter with "New Pet Parent Kits" (pictured above) to give to new adopters. Each kit is full of all kinds of Subaru swag and pet goodies. Thank you Kirby Subaru!

As part of Subaru Loves Pets month, Subaru is also donating $100 to the HSVC for every pet adopted during the month of October. We appreciate their support!

(Above) Kirby Subaru is not only a long-time supporter and donor of the HSVC, but they are also one of our newest DoorDash host locationsThe HSVC has recently partnered with DoorDash, Interface Children & Family Services Ventura County 2.1.1., and the United Way to deliver free dog and cat food to underserved communities across Ventura County.

With this pilot program, pet owners in need will be able to order FREE pet food through DoorDash within a ten-mile radius of one of our host locations. Kirby Subaru has already helped us provide over 5000 pounds of FREE pet food to animals in need. What a great way to celebrate Make A Dog's Day and Subaru Loves Pets month!

(Above) As we celebrate National Make A Dog's Day, Subaru focuses their efforts on the hard-to-adopt shelter dogs, affectionately terms "The Underdogs". One of such Underdogs at our Shelter is Jojo, an 8-year-old Minature Poodle mix who was recently rescued in the field by our Humane Officers. Jojo was extremely matted when she first arrived at the HSVC and in need of some serious TLC.

We are happy to report that senior pup Jojo has found her forever home just in time to celebrate Subaru Loves Pets month and Make A Dog's Day! She will be living happily ever after with Ed and Karen. Congratulations Jojo!

As a private nonprofit, we do not receive any funding from the government or other national animal welfare organizations. Our Shelter relies entirely on the generosity of our community to help us continue providing life-saving services. With this in mind, we ask you to consider making a donation to the HSVC. Your donation will allow us to continue providing protection, compassionate care, and more for Underdogs like Jojo. Please visit our website to make a donation and help animals in need. Thank you for your support!
