HSVC Cares Brings Pet Wellness Services with Heart and Impact

HSVC Cares proudly partnered with Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) to host another successful off-site free pet vaccine clinic on Saturday, May 3rd, in La Colonia. Throughout the day, the dedicated team of veterinary professionals and volunteers provided 89 vaccinations, 25 microchips, and 22 spay/neuter surgeries from our Mobile Pet Wellness Clinic. These numbers are a testament to the growing impact of our outreach clinics and the trust we’re building with pet owners across Ventura County.

The vaccinations administered included core preventatives such as DHPP (distemper/parvo) for dogs and FVRCP (upper respiratory) for cats, which are essential to keeping pets safe from common but potentially life-threatening diseases. Microchipping helps ensure lost pets are more likely to be reunited with their families—an especially important service for communities where access to full-service veterinary care may be limited. Spay and neuter surgeries not only play a key role in reducing pet overpopulation, but they also offer long-term health and behavioral benefits. Each surgery included necessary vaccinations and, in some cases, microchipping—further supporting our goal of improving the overall well-being of every animal we see. In addition to the services provided, we’re grateful to have received $178 in donations from generous community members. Every dollar goes directly back into our programs, helping us continue this important work in neighborhoods that need it most.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ventura County Animal Services for their collaboration and to every volunteer and staff member who gave their time and energy to make the day a success. Most importantly, thank you to the pet owners of La Colonia who trusted us to care for their furry family members. Events like this reinforce our mission: to remove barriers to veterinary care and ensure every pet, regardless of their owner’s income or location, has access to essential health services. The success of this event underscores the urgent need for mobile, low-cost clinics in more communities throughout Ventura County. Together, we’re building healthier communities—one pet at a time.

If you missed us in La Colonia, don’t worry! HSVC Cares hosts a low-cost vaccine clinic every Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at our shelter, located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai. These walk-in clinics are first-come, first-served. Visit our website for more information, and keep an eye on our event page for where and when the next remote vaccine clinic will be held!
