Interested in Becoming a Humane Officer? We're Hiring!
Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of animals in need? Do you have a passion for animal welfare and protection? Consider applying to be a Humane Officer with the HSVC! We're looking for reliable, hardworking individuals to act as advocates for the kind treatment of animals throughout Ventura County.
Appointed and employed by Societies to Prevent Cruelty to Animals (SPCAs) and confirmed by superior courts, Humane Officers may exercise the powers of a peace officer to uphold our state's animal protection laws. They are authorized to make arrests and serve warrants for crimes against animals. Essential job functions of a Humane Officer include the prevention, detection, and investigation of all forms of animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty. They collect evidence, assist local law enforcement, and exhibit professionalism and good judgment skills.
Those interested should be aware there will be a six-month ride-along period while completing the required PC 832, criminal background investigation, psychological exam, drug test, physical, and Basic Animal Law Enforcement Academy. After being badged, Humane Officers also need to complete forty hours of CalAnimals approved continuing education every three years.
