Thank you Avery Sontheimer of Corry, PA, for donating a Walmart gift card to the Humane Society of Ventura County. According to Avery, the HSVC was one of many random animal shelters chosen throughout the US to receive a gift card as an act of kindness. Avery, 13, suffers from Ewing Sarcoma Cancer and has devoted her time during treatment and recovery to express herself by giving back to a cause that means so much to her – animal welfare. 

Thanks to Avery's gift card donation, the HSVC was able to purchase a doggie stocking filled with holiday toys to share among the animals under our care. Shakira (pictured) absolutely loved the Santa Clause stuffed toy!

Avery says that she would one day like to operate her own shelter and that she’s grateful for our efforts and that “you have a hard job every day and most times it’s overlooked by many people. I hope this brightens your day and know someone is thinking of you.” According to Avery’s Facebook page, she has sent out gift cards to 1600+ shelters to date and is continuing her efforts. Avery has set up a Gofundme page to help her raise money for her efforts. Thank you Avery for all the hard work you do to help the HSVC and other animal shelters throughout the country!
