Help Abby Get the Care She Needs

On Friday, November 8th, the Humane Society of Ventura County responded to a direct call from an owner who was in dire need of help with their horse. The owner had been urged to call the Shelter and ask for help after it became evident that the horse's needs were not being met. Humane Officer Winwood and Veterinary Assistant, Christina Malleck, immediately went to the property to meet with the owner. All parties involved agreed it would be best for the horse to be signed over to the Shelter so that it could receive immediate care.

When the horse, Abby, arrived at the Shelter, she was cautious of her new surroundings but unloaded from the trailer with ease. She responded well to the attention of staff and veterinarian April Armstrong from Shoreline Equine Veterinary Services.

Abby is underweight and has a skin condition referred to as rain rot that she was prescribed a regular medicated bath for. She also has a condition with her eye that is being medicated and has already started to greatly improve.

We look forward to watching Abby be rehabilitated under the care and expertise of our staff and veterinary partners. Once Abby has received veterinary approval, she will become available for adoption. Abby is a 25-year-old Morgan and Quarterhorse cross and so far has been very open to the care she has received. There is minimal background on her previous life and her personality, but we look forward to getting to know her and sharing with our supporters her story.

To date, Abby's veterinary bills have reached $1,190. If you would like to support Abby's recovery, please consider making a donation on our site and selecting Medical Fund in the drop-down menu.
