Two-Legged Puppy has a Bright Future with a Little Help from the HSVC
You have all seen them in the news, the cute YouTube videos of a two-legged dog enjoying all the riches of a fulfilling life in a loving home and family. With the proper care and attention, there is no reason why a healthy dog with only two legs can’t realize their full potential when given the tools necessary for success. Dually, who was just two days old when she was signed over to our Humane Officers in the field, is one lucky pup who will receive all the care she needs to have a happy life.
Dually's previous owner reached out to the Humane Society of Ventura County asking for help and our Humane Officers were more than happy to assist, applauding the family for asking for help when they realized they didn't have the ability to care for a special needs dog properly. “All too often people who need assistance wait until a situation gets over their heads before asking for help. I was very proud of this family for recognizing that they could not provide the proper care for these dogs and being courageous enough to give us a call," commented Senior Humane Officer T. Vail.
Dually did not come alone, her mother and siblings were also signed over to the Officers and once they arrived back at the shelter were seen by veterinarian Dr. Sisk DVM, who was happy to report they are all doing well. Besides missing her 2 front legs, Dually is otherwise in good health and her progress will be closely monitored as she grows up in our care.
Thanks to the foresight of these dogs previous family, their future looks bright! Dually still has quite a bit of work ahead of her to make sure that she learns early on how to best handle her unique circumstance, however at this time, what she needs the most is the nurturing care of her mother. As Dually and her siblings continue to grow, we look forward to sharing their journey with you all.
