Excessive Heat Warning!

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Southwest California including Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties. Special concern needs to be made for our pets.

The temperature inside a parked car, back of a pickup truck, or even the asphalt and/or sidewalk tend to be much higher than the ambient temperature. These temps can cause serious injury to pets.

When temperatures rise the Humane Society of Ventura County receives numerous calls about animals in distress. If a member of the public comes across an animal in distress, their local law enforcement should be their first call!

During extreme weather we encourage everyone to please leave your animals at home and indoors. Wait to walk your dogs until the late evening or early mornings and by no means leave your animal in a car for any amount of time. If your pet shows any signs of distress in the heat, immediately take them to a veterinarian.
