Senior Horse Dakota Finds His Forever Home

Three cheers for Dakota! After a long journey in and out of the shelter, we are thrilled to share that he has finally found his forever home with Ruth! The 25-year-old Quarterhorse now spends his days roaming the pasture with his new friend, Guinness. We couldn't think of a better home for this sweet senior!

Dakota was originally adopted from the HSVC four years ago and returned to the shelter in late October 2022. He quickly became known as the lovable grandpa horse of the barn and held that role for over two years as he awaited a new forever home. Ruth adopted another senior horse, Dylan, from the HSVC two years ago who recently crossed the rainbow bridge. After his passing, Ruth reached out to our Equine Manager, Christina Malleck, hoping to find a new pasture buddy for her other senior horse, Guinness. She fell in love with Dakota and instantly knew she wanted to add the sweet senior to her equine family.

Our staff and horse volunteers loved caring for Dakota and wanted nothing more than for him to find his happily ever after. "It's bittersweet because he meant so much to everyone here at the humane society, but he deserves this. Thank you to everyone who made his stay here amazing and made sure he felt loved!" said Christina. Thank you, Ruth, for giving this lovable senior the second chance he deserves. Congratulations and happy tails, Dakota!
