ABOUT
Celebrate Adopt a Cat Month this June!
June is Adopt a Cat Month, an annual event that celebrates the bond between humans and rescue cats. The American Humane Association started this monthly awareness campaign in 1974 to encourage the adoption of shelter cats. June was designated for this event because it marks the height of "kitten season," when millions of kittens are born and often end up in shelters.
Help us celebrate by adopting or sharing your cat adoption story on Facebook and/or Instagram! Your success story can encourage others to adopt, thus reducing pressure on already overburdened animal shelters. If you are interested in adopting, you can visit our website to view all of our available animals. If you aren't able to adopt, consider volunteering or making a donation.
Kitten season is in full swing, and this can be attributed to a variety of factors such as longer days, better weather, and more access to food. These factors result in higher survival rates for the offspring of many species. According to Shelter Animals Count, in 2023, 1,580,000 out of the 3,300,000 cats entering organizations were estimated to be under five months old. Shelters are currently full of cats and kittens in need of forever homes. These feline fur babies come with as many personalities as they do colors and coats, and they quickly find their way into our hearts. Whether they were born in the shelter, surrendered, or abandoned, 3.4 million cats find their way to a shelter nationwide.
This is why we promote spaying and neutering! Altering your feline is considered a routine surgery, and the benefits include controlling the pet population, preventing certain diseases, and reducing behavioral problems. Helping control the pet overpopulation crisis reduces the number of strays who end up in shelters. You can help us make a difference this June by adopting or donating in support of our cause.
