Turn Your Old Ride into Driving Change this Cartober!

This October, the Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) is participating in Cartober, a donation movement that encourages folks to gift their used cars to local shelters. Vehicle donations to the HSVC have the potential to bring hundreds and sometimes even thousands of dollars in support of our programs. Donating is easy, the pick-up is free, and your gift is tax-deductible!

As the leaves change and fall settles in, we're reminded of the natural changes that come with the season. Just as the world around us shifts, you too can embrace change by giving your old car that is collecting dust a new purpose. This Cartober, instead of letting your unused vehicle sit idle, donate it to make a real impact on the lives of the animals here at the HSVC. You can help provide essential support for the animals that rely on the shelter for food, enrichment, medical care, and a second chance at finding their forever home.

Your gift will also make a positive environmental impact! Donating your old vehicle helps reduce waste by preventing cars from being abandoned in junkyards or taking up space in landfills. Many donated cars are recycled or sold, turning them into valuable resources while minimizing environmental harm.

How to Donate Your Vehicle

Donating your car is easier than ever, and it can be done in a few quick steps. We have partnered with CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services) to streamline the process, ensuring your vehicle donation is hassle-free.

Here's how it works:

1. Start Your Donation: Contact our vehicle donation partner, CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services), at 855-500-7433 or fill out the online car donation form and designate the Humane Society of Ventura County as your selected charity. The CARS Vehicle Donation Support team is available seven days a week to support you every step of the way.

2. Free Pickup Service: Once your donation is processed, CARS will arrange a free pickup of your vehicle at a time that is convenient for you. Whether your car is running or not, they'll tow it for free; no need to worry about the logistics.

3. Tax Deduction: After your vehicle is sold, you'll receive a tax receipt, which you can claim a deduction on your taxes. It's a great way to support a worthy cause while also benefiting from potential financial savings.

The impact of your car donation directly supports the HSVC's mission to care for and protect vulnerable animals. From puppies and kittens to senior pets and everything in between, your donation can help animals receive the care they need to find their forever home. Your old car may not serve you, but it can still serve the animals. Your contributions ensure that the shelter's residents are fed and comfortable as they await adoption. It covers medical treatment, including surgeries, vaccinations, and spay/neuter programs, which are critical to keeping the animal population healthy. Your donation also helps fund outreach and adoption events, allowing more animals to find loving homes.

While Cartober is usually set in October, the chance to donate your car is year-round. You can visit our webpage at any time you have a vehicle to donate.

October is also Subaru Loves Pet Month!

Subaru isn't just known for its dependable cars and adventurous spirit; it's also a company with a heart for animals. Through their ongoing Subaru Loves Pets initiative, Subaru has been making a significant impact on the lives of shelter animals across the country. Every October, our friends at Kirby Subaru in Ventura partner with us to help find loving homes for HSVC pets, ensuring these furry friends get the second chances they deserve. All month long, they will amplify their commitment to helping our shelter friends by donating $100 for each animal adopted from the HSVC! Thank you, Kirby Subaru, for your continuous support!

You can also participate in Subaru Loves Pets month by welcoming a shelter animal into your home or donating to support the cause! Those interested in rescuing a pet can visit the HSVC, located at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai, CA, Monday - Saturday from 10 am - 4:30 pm to meet your future best friend. Supporters looking to donate and help animals in need can do so by visiting our website. We appreciate your support!
