BIRTHDAY BASH - 2015

Thank you to everyone who attended our 83rd Birthday Celebration and Open House! It was great to see so many familiar faces (both human and canine), make new friends, and meet new supporters. It was a beautiful day out in Ojai, the perfect day to celebrate, and here at the shelter we have a lot to be thankful for!

A special thank you to our friends and supporters who helped put the event together and our volunteers who helped the event be a success! We had an arts and crafts table, where folks of all ages could design a bandanna for a shelter dog or make a bird feeder to take home. Our Humane Educator, Dawn Reily, was also there with her pack of critters for guests to hold, ask questions, and learn about the different services our education department offers. Humane Education became one of our main priorities in the late 80′s. We have visited thousands of school classrooms, children and youth organizations, service clubs and various functions promoting the protection of and kindness to all living beings and our environment. Children are never too young to learn respect for all life.

The line for Dr. Lewis' Low Cost Shot Clinic was immense, and we encourage you to take advantage of this service on the first and third Saturday of every month!

The Humane Society of Ventura County was organized in 1932 by a group of dedicated animal lovers. After many years of struggling with small shelters, very little money and lots of needy animals, the Humane Society moved into our the existing shelter in 1982. Sara Bayless, our beloved benefactor of many years, bought and donated over 4.4 acres of beautiful property for our new Shelter. Thanks to lots of hard, dedicated fundraising, the Shelter was paid for the day we moved in. Since then the shelter has expended to include a state of the art Spay and Neuter Clinic, Humane Officer Division, Education Department and more!

Come and join our Humane Society family – it’s lots of fun and look at all the good work you’ll be doing for the animals. Please visit our Shelter and Adoption Center at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai. You will meet a happy staff and volunteers who love being here. It is a cheerful, positive, hopeful place and we welcome all of you!
