Say hello to Big Guy! He is not your average horse—he’s a 30-year-old American Quarter Horse with a lifetime of experiences and a strong personality. This handsome boy joined HSVC in April 2024 after his previous owner made the compassionate decision to surrender him to our Humane Officers. Now, Big Guy is embracing retirement on his terms and hoping to find a forever home to call his own.

Big Guy may be in his golden years, but don’t let his age fool you—this gelding has his own opinions and he’s not shy about sharing them. He knows who he is and what he wants: his space, his people, and definitely all the attention to himself. He’s got a strong personality and thrives as the center of your world. In fact, Big Guy has made it clear—he enjoys being the only horse in the spotlight. He’s not the biggest fan of other horses, though he’ll tolerate their presence (with a bit of side-eye). 

Recently gelded, Big Guy is still adjusting and learning what it means to be a model citizen in a shared environment. He’s doing well, but will need a stallion-experienced adopter who understands his quirks and is committed to supporting him through this transition. With the people he knows, Big Guy can be incredibly sweet and affectionate. He bonds with his humans, enjoys one-on-one time, and loves being groomed and doted on. Once he trusts you, you’ll find his gentle side shines just as much as his sass. He’s also broke to ride, great in the trailer and wash rack, and absolutely lives for mealtime—just make sure his senior soaked pelleted feed is ready when he is!
