Bernie's Happy Ending

In mid-June, HSVC staff contacted our friends at Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo (SLO) and arranged a "dog swap" with one of our longest residents, Ophelia, and one of their long-term residents, Bernie. Two members of the HSVC team transported Ophelia to Buellton, the halfway point between HSVC and Woods, did the swap, and headed back to HSVC with Bernie. The HSVC team welcomed Bernie with open arms, giving him love and spending lots of time with him to get to know his personality.

Upon arriving at HSVC, Bernie adjusted well and instantly became a staff favorite with his happy-go-lucky demeanor. Dee, HSVC's Canine Assistant Animal Care Manager (pictured left), loved hanging out with Bernie and taking him for walks. "Bernie is one of those types of dogs that would just go wherever his people are going. He's a total couch potato, fun, loves to play fetch, and is super easygoing. He loved to go on his morning walks and then just sit and hang out in the shade," said Dee.

Bernie leaves the shelter and says goodbye to the staff as he is off to his forever home. The lovable senior dog went home to a father and son who fell in love with Bernie's demeanor and chill personality. They loved how well he walked on the leash and how fun he is. The father and son enjoyed how he is still active enough but would also enjoy lounging around. Bernie loves to play fetch and go for his daily walks, and then he would be good for the rest of the day as long as he has his potty walks. He is the perfect match for them and their lifestyle, and it was meant to be! Congrats and happy tails to all!
