Two Hearts, One Home: Ariana and Thirteen Get Adopted!

Big news from the barn! Thirteen and Ariana, two of our beloved rescue horses, trotted off into a bright new chapter and were adopted by the wonderful Hogan Family Foundation! These two gentle souls can now call Rancho St. Francis home, where they’ll spend their days enjoying fresh hay, wide-open pastures, and plenty of well-deserved pampering. They’re joining fellow HSVC alums Sadie Mae and Juniper, making the ranch feel like a true reunion of rescued hearts. We couldn't be more excited that this lucky pair found their happy ending!

Thirteen was surrendered to HSVC in June 2024 after his previous owner could no longer afford his medical care. Smart and handsome, the 23-year-old Paint horse has always been a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Now, he’s soaking up the good life at Rancho St. Francis, where he’s settled in beautifully. His new neighbors are a charming crew of six mini horses who keep things lively. The sassiest of the bunch, Ginger, has already made quite the impression! Thirteen’s calm nature makes him the perfect big brother figure among his pint-sized pasture mates, and it's clear he’s loving the peaceful rhythm of his new home.

Ariana, a gorgeous 16-year-old Egyptian Arabian mare, was the first horse to be surrendered to the shelter in late December of 2023. Though she had a lack of teeth, she was never short on charm! As the very first horse to be surrendered to the shelter back in December 2023, Ariana quickly won hearts with her gentle nature. Her sweetness was especially showcased during our Fun at the Shelter program visits, where she loved connecting with residents from local care facilities. Now, she’s living large in a spacious stall at Rancho St. Francis next door to her new neighbor, a friendly mule named Blondie. With plenty of room to stretch out and a new buddy by her side, Ariana is truly thriving in her forever home!

During our visit, the team was thrilled to catch up with two familiar faces, Sadie Mae and Juniper. The HSVC alums who have now called Rancho St. Francis home for nearly a decade! Sadie Mae (above) was rescued by Humane Officers in September 2014. She arrived at the shelter severely underweight and in need of serious care. Thanks to her strong spirit and a healthy appetite, Sadie Mae made a steady recovery while in protective custody with four other horses. Soon enough, she found her perfect match with The Hogan Family Foundation—and she’s been thriving ever since!

Juniper first came to the HSVC under protective custody from a neglect case in 2018. She was brought in by Humane Officers with her 4-month-old baby, Olive, after they were found living in a filthy enclosure. Similar to Sadie Mae, the sweet mare was also very thin and in need of medical care. Thanks to the dedication of our staff, both mares were brought back to health, rehabilitated, and eventually rehomed. It was a true full-circle moment for Officer King, who was one of the Humane Officers working Juniper's case.

We are eternally grateful to The Hogan Family Foundation for making a difference in the lives of so many animals in need. It warms our hearts knowing that Ariana and Thirteen will enjoy the same compassion and dedicated care that Sadie Mae and Juniper have experienced for over a decade. We are confident that they will be cherished and well cared for throughout the rest of their lives!
