The Humane Society of Ventura County 2019 Calendar is now available at the shelter's gift shop and online. The calendar is a culmination of images made by HSVC volunteers and staff over the past 12 months. The animals featured in the 13-month calendar were either adopted through the HSVC or were under our care at one time.
Special Thanks to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation for hosting the Humane Society of Ventura County during their October Classic Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.
Last week, the Humane Society of Ventura County took in four neglected horses at our Shelter, located in Ojai. Their conditions have improved dramatically since their arrival, according to HSVC Equine Specialist Christie Tracy. “A whole lot of love and proper feeding goes a long way,” said Tracy. She notes that all four horses are thankful to be here and that they are adjusting to their new surroundings. “The baby is doing great, she is happy to be able to run around and lay out in the sun." After daily bathing, ample water and a proper diet, the most evident change is in the appearance of their coats. Tracy continues, “Caring for these animals who have endured so much at their previous home, knowing that they are getting the best care here, is the most rewarding part of my job.”
The Humane Society of Ventura County took in four horses at our Shelter in Ojai this week. In response to a case of neglect, HSVC Senior Humane Officer Vail and Humane Officer Winwood discovered severely emaciated horses on a property in Ventura County in immediate need of care. The four horses were transported to the HSVC to be cared for by HSVC Equine Specialist Christie Tracy, HSVC Veterinary Assistant Christina Malleck and the Shelter staff under the supervision of Marta Granstedt, DVM and Kevin Smith, DVM. The horses registered as a 1 on the Henneke scale and are extremely malnourished.
Thank you Cyndy Treutelaar, President of the Humane Society of Ventura County Board of Directors and Stephanie Grostick for helping redistribute 54 cases of Earth Animal dog treats.
This past March, Senior Humane Officer Vail, and Humane Officer Winwood received a complaint about a badly neglected dog. Due to the urgency in the complaint, the officers, who handle cases of animal abuse and neglect throughout the county, responded immediately. What the officers would witness next would be a harrowing sight.
The Humane Society of Ventura County is very lucky to have a diverse group of volunteers to work with our animals. For over 15 years, participants from The Arc organization have been coming to the Shelter to spend time with the dogs and cats and it is a wonderful experience for the animals and the volunteers.
