Hay Now, Lion’s Club Donation Put to Use

Thanks to a generous donation by the Ojai Valley Lion's Club, a second hay barn is under construction at the Humane Society of Ventura County. Once complete, it will be a duplicate of the hay barn already on site at the Shelter property in Ojai and will be used to store large animal feed.

Open Board Meeting - April 17th

Patagonia Kid’s Club - Succulent Success!

Special thanks to Patagonia Kid’s Club program for their donation of supplies to the Humane Society of Ventura County. The after-school care program’s children, ages 5-8, utilized recycled gardening pots, ceramic mugs and other containers to pot succulents to sell at Patagonia’s Ventura Campus recently.

Dually Update!

Dually update! Little Dually, the Chihuahua puppy who is missing her front two legs has graduated to some much deserved outdoor time! Dually, her mother Mercedes and her siblings Chevy and Shelby spend the best part of the day enjoying the sunshine where they can get some exercise and start strengthening their tiny muscles so they can go grow up healthy and strong. Dually has been doing her very best to stay caught up with her siblings and earlier today we captured a proud momma moment after Dually spent some time being socialized by our Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteer Spotlight - Barbara Golding

Our volunteers go above and beyond to care for the animals here at the Shelter. One such volunteer, Barbara Golding, is one of twenty Animal Ambassadors who helps around the shelter is a variety of ways. Her focus is on our dogs as well as helping out at various events and pack walks. Barbara started in February of 2014, which makes this her 5th year of volunteering at the Humane Society of Ventura County!

Here at the Humane Society of Ventura County, we rely on a diverse group of people who share their time and skills to improve the well-being of animals throughout our community. These outstanding individuals, families, and groups from around the county donated nearly 10,000 hours of service in 2018.

Protecting Your Pets & Home

A special thank you to Detective Joseph Preciado from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office for stopping by the Shelter last week to speak with a group of community members that were recently impacted by a home here in Ojai that was overrun with rodents. While details of the case are not available to the general public, Detective Preciado and Shelter Director Jolene Hoffman were able to have an open discussion with the group in regards to how neighbors could protect their homes, families, and pets from rodents wandering onto their properties.

One of the most common reasons for pet relinquishment is financial hardships and the Pet Food Bank at the Humane Society of Ventura County helps struggling guardians keep beloved pets in their homes. Thousands of pounds of pet food are given out each year to scores of local families.
